The Black Moth is a historical novel set in the Georgian era, written by British author Georgette Heyer, and first published in 1921. Written when the author was only nineteen years old, the story is set in 1751 and follows the adventures of Lord Jack Carstares, an English nobleman who, having shouldered the blame for a cheating scandal years prior, turns to the life of a highwayman. His path intersects with Miss Diana Beauleigh's when he rescues her from a near abduction by the Duke of Andover. Despite their burgeoning love, Jack's tumultuous history and unconventional occupation cast shadows over their potential happiness. The novel was based on a story that Heyer had written for her brother.
