The Five Nations by English writer and poet Rudyard Kipling, is a collection of poems first published in 1903. Divided into two sections, the first being untitled, and the second called 'Service Songs'. The second includes Kipling's famous poem 'Boots' which imagines the repetitive thoughts of a British Army infantryman marching in South Africa during the Second Boer War. The 1915 spoken-word recording of 'Boots' by American actor Taylor Holmes has been used for its psychological effect in U.S. military SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape) schools. You can find a YouTube recording of the poem here.
