Description

'Flecker's Magic' is a novel by Norman H. Matson, first published in 1926. The story follows Spike Flecker, a struggling American painter residing in Paris, who, amidst his artistic failures and profound loneliness, encounters a mysterious woman claiming to be a witch. She bestows upon him a magic ring capable of granting a single wish, giving him five days to decide his heart's true desire. This fantastical premise serves as a vehicle for exploring themes of ambition, fulfillment, and the complexities of human desire. The novel received critical attention upon its release and was later praised by E.M. Forster in his lecture series 'Aspects of the Novel' for its imaginative narrative. In 1959, it was republished under the title 'Enchanted Beggar'.
