Lord Jim is a 1900 novel by Joseph Conrad, and is ranked 85th on the Modern Library's list of 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. A work of psychological fiction, it tells the tale of a young British seaman (Jim) who gets a position working on board a passenger ship. After several days at sea, the ship hits something; taking on water and in danger of sinking, the Captain and the crew abandon the ship.
