Description

Manalive is a book by English author G. K. Chesterton, first published in 1912. In this engaging comic, mystery novel, the arrival of the enigmatic and whimsical Innocent Smith at Beacon House, a London boarding establishment, stirs the lives of its residents. Smith's lively games and antics breathe fresh energy into the household, sparking romance, reconciliation, and adventure. However, the newfound joy is abruptly threatened when Smith is accused of serious crimes including burglary and attempted murder. Instead of immediately involving the authorities, the residents decide to conduct their own investigation through the High Court of Beacon. The second part delves into the trial where Smith’s innocence is humorously and cleverly revealed, showing that his actions, though eccentric, are ultimately harmless and full of deeper meaning.
