Description

A Man’s Woman is a novel by American writer Frank Norris, first published in 1900. The book primarily follows two characters, Ward Bennett and Lloyd Searight, and the unlikely love that blossoms between them. The tale begins with Ward, a determined explorer, and his crew embarking on a perilous journey towards the North Pole, enduring severe hardships. Many succumb to slow, agonizing deaths, saved only by the chance encounter of a passing boat. Upon their return home, Ward and his surviving companions are hailed as heroes. The narrative then shifts to Lloyd, a young and charming nurse who, despite her wealth, chooses to work in the medical field. It is revealed that Lloyd shares a mutual affection with Ward, though neither has confessed their feelings. The book was one of three romantic novels by Norris who typically wrote about more serious topics.
