Master Flea is a fairytale fantasy novel written by E. T. A. Hoffmann, and first published in 1822. Set in the city of Frankfurt am Main, the story follows the adventures of Peregrinus Tyss, a young man who is granted the ability to shrink to minuscule size by the titular character, Master Flea. As Peregrinus explores the world at his miniature scale, he encounters various eccentric characters and becomes embroiled in a series of comedic and absurd situations. Along the way, he learns important lessons about life, love, and human nature. Sections of Master Flea faced censorship and required revision when authorities took issue with its satirical critiques of the contemporary court system.
