On the Stage - and Off: The Brief Career Of A Would-Be Actor, is a book by Jerome K. Jerome, first published in 1885. The book is a comic memoir of Jerome's experiences with an acting troupe he joined in his desire to be on the stage. Inspired by his elder sister Blandina's love for the theatre, he decided to try his hand at acting in 1877, under the stage name Harold Crichton, but after 3 years and no success, decided he had had enough. He went on to have a successful career instead as a writer with Three Men in a Boat being his break-through work.
This book has 39,605 words, 65 pages in the PDF version, and was originally published in 1885.
