Sister Carrie is a 1900 novel by Theodore Dreiser. The book follows 18-year-old Caroline 'Sister Carrie' Meeber who moves away from her rural home in Wisconsin to Chicago to stay with her older sister. Trying to find her way in the world, she takes a job, and moves in with a man she originally met on the train journey to Chicago. From there, she lives her own American Dream, having relationships with men and later, becoming a famous actress. Sister Carrie has been called the greatest of all American urban novels.
