Description

Tender is the Night is a novel by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald, first published in 1934. First serialised in Scribner's Magazine, this was Fitzgerald's final completed novel, written while he was having financial problems. In addition, during the time he was working on it, his wife had her first nervous breakdown and was hospitalised for schizophrenia, and his father died. The book is the story of Dick Diver and his wife Nicole. Diver is a psychiatrist and his wife one of his patients. The story also involves a young actress, a murdered man, a descent into alcoholism, and a rocky marriage - a story that almost mirrors events in the lives of the author and his wife Zelda, including a scene where the main character is beaten by the police. Although reception for Tender Is the Night was not entirely enthusiastic, Fitzgerald thought it was his best work, and indeed, since it was published, appreciation for it has grown greatly.

This book has 109,779 words, 248 pages in the PDF version, and was originally published in 1934.
