Treasure Island is an adventure novel by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, first published in 1883. The story is told from the perspective of Jim Hawkins, a young boy who becomes involved in a search for buried treasure on a remote island. The tale begins when a mysterious sailor, Billy Bones, takes up lodging at Jim's family's inn. After Billy dies, Jim discovers a map in his belongings that leads to the buried treasure of the infamous pirate Captain Flint. Jim joins a group of adventurers, including the one-legged pirate Long John Silver, to sail to the island and find the treasure. However, Silver and his crew have their own plans for the treasure, and Jim must use all of his wits and courage to stay alive and claim the treasure for himself. Treasure Island was originally serialised from 1881 to 1882 in the children's magazine Young Folks, under the title Treasure Island or the Mutiny of the Hispaniola.
