The Whisperer in Darkness is a novella by American writer H. P. Lovecraft, first published in the magazine Weird Tales in 1931. A mix of horror and science fiction, the story follows the correspondence between two academics: Albert N. Wilmarth, a professor of folklore, and Henry Akeley, a recluse living in rural Vermont. Akeley claims to have discovered evidence of strange and otherworldly creatures known as the Mi-Go, which are said to inhabit the remote hills of Vermont. These beings are described as fungoid creatures with the ability to travel through space and harvest human brains for their scientific research. As Wilmarth becomes increasingly intrigued by Akeley's letters and evidence, he decides to visit Akeley's secluded farmhouse to investigate further. What follows is a series of eerie and unsettling events as Wilmarth delves deeper into the mystery of the Mi-Go and the secrets hidden in the Vermont hills.
